Business Class
I don't know very much about this aspect of immigration but here is some basic information. See the Canadian Government site - Business Class Section.

  • Investors
The Immigrant Investor Program seeks to attract experienced persons and capital to Canada. Investors must demonstrate business experience, a minimum net worth of CDN $800,000 and make an investment of CDN $400,000.
  • Entrepreneurs
The Entrepreneur Program seeks to attract experienced persons that will own and actively manage businesses in Canada that will contribute to the economy and create jobs. Entrepreneurs must demonstrate business experience, a minimum net worth of CDN $300,000 and are subject to conditions upon arrival in Canada.
  • Self-employed persons
Self-employed persons must have the intention and ability to create their own employment. They are expected to contribute to the cultural or athletic life of Canada. They may create their own employment by purchasing and managing a farm in Canada. I take this to mean that self employment status is fairly restricted to either farming, the arts or athletics. From what I can see you have to have been self employed in your field for a minimum of five years, or be a 'world'class' athlete or artist (this includes all of the arts) or you must have farm management experience.

Work Permits Every year over 90,000 foreign workers enter Canada working temporarily to help Canadian employers address skill shortages in Canada. See Working Temporarily in Canada, You cannot immigrate with a work permit. These are temporary visas. Though there are a few exceptions in most cases and employer must offer you a job and HRDC must normally provide a labour market opinion or 'confirmation' of your job offer.

    The Live-In Caregiver Program

A live-in caregiver is someone who provides care to children, the elderly or the disabled in a private household. After working two years as a live-in caregiver you can apply to be a permanent resident in Canada. See the Government Site
    .To Qualify:
    • You must have successfully completed the equivalent of a Canadian high school education.
    • Have six months of full-time training or 12 months of experience in a field or occupation related to the job. The we months of experience must include at least six months of continuous employment with one employer, in that field or occupation. This experience must have been obtained within the three years immediately prior to the day on which the caregiver submits an application for a work permit to a visa officer.
    • Ability to speak, read and understand either English or French.
    • You must have a job offer validated by the HRDC which must contain caregiving duties for a child, or an elderly or disabled person. A job offer for a housecleaner, for example, is not acceptable under the Program. The HRCC will ensure that no Canadians, permanent residents or other temporary workers already in Canada are qualified and available to take the employer's offer of employment.
