Many people have asked about same sex applications. Canada has long had an enlightened policy. Until recently these applications fell under the Independent (now Skilled Worker) category. If you have applied under the old system and asked to be considered on Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds I understand those applications will proceed as before.
New applications now fall under the Family Class category. Because this is still quite recent some of the information given on the Government site is a bit confusing. Though the Act definitely appears to include same-sex partners in the Family Class section there are a couple of places on the site where they say 'you must be of the opposite sex and married'. I am guessing that's simply an oversight and that the website will be updated soon.
If you are called for interview as part of the Family Class application try not to worry. Take evidence to show your relationship. Photos, cards, letters (they won't read your personal mail but have it there as evidence of the relationship). Telephone bills are good too as are joint bank statements, bills, lease or rental agreements.

This is an interesting site I have recently heard about. It is called BorderConnections
I have two links:
All consultants and lawyers can help you with same-sex applications. However, for fairly obvious reasons Smith Hughes
are real experts and have many gay friendly links and resources.
